Apple launched its latest version of the Mac OS X, the OS X Mountain Lion 10.8 last month and we now have an update bringing an array of minor updates.

The update is a general maintenance and bug release fix, with a hint of improvements here and there.

To update, simply hit the  Apple menu and select "Software Update..." and your Mac will take care of the rest.

As with all OS X software updates, you’ll need to restart your computer after installing.

The update is fairly small, ranges from just 8MB to 30MB, depending on the type of Mac you have.

Here’s the official list of changes and improvements with the OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.1 update:

  • Resolve an issue that may cause Migration Assistant to unexpectedly quit
  • Improve compatibility when connecting to a Microsoft Exchange server in Mail
  • Address an issue playing audio through a Thunderbolt display
  • Resolve an issue that could prevent iMessages from being sent
  • Address an issue that could cause the system to become unresponsive when using Pinyin input
  • Resolve an issue when connecting to SMB servers with long names
  • Address a issue that may prevent Safari from launching when using a Proxy Automatic Configuration (PAC) file
  • Improve 802.1X authentication with Active Directory credentials

Unfortunately this update does not seem to plug the battery life drain problem that some users have experienced since installing Mountain Lion.

OS X 10.8.2 testing is reportedly already underway and the update supposedly focuses on the following areas: Messages, Facebook integration, Game Center, Safari, and Reminders. Apple has always brought much appreciated updates to their operating system and it would be interesting to see how many improvements we’ll be seeing in the near future!
